A New Passion? Mixed Media and Art Journaling

Well, I think I've got the bug! I've always loved colour and now that I have been playing with my new Dylusions ink sprays, stencils and water colour paints I just can't get enough!

Here's what I've been up to the last little while. I'm now on a search for glossy magazine pics that are a little retro, and a little bit funky to add to my journals. It's been ages since I scrapbooked and I'm actually contemplating on just taking my art journals with me to my next retreat!

Playing with Watercolours

I haven't done much scrapbooking at all lately. I seem to be addicted to colour and paints. I started a watercolour journal this weekend and am so inspired by two particular women and their blogs. I HATE to copy. I really do, but I'm not sure how you learn without copying until you learn your own style. I love Lori Vliegen's style from elvie studio blog. I love her creative lettering and so I played around with some of her designs and copied what she has done and put a little twist of my own on the odd one. I also love Jenny Frith and her colourful style. Her blog, Jenny's Sketchbook is here. Be sure to check both of these women out, they are amazing artists!

So here's my attempts at some of my first watercolours. I have to say, I am getting better at shading as I go. I'm addicted, absolutely LOVE it! Thanks for stopping by to see what I've been up to :)

Another Page in my Art Journal

So last night, I pulled out my water colours and attempted to paint a hummingbird, it just didn't work. I really need to practice! It's funny how if you just keep playing though you can make something that you're not at all happy with into something great! I am beginning to realize I'm much more of a mixed media kinda gal instead of just working with one medium. I cut that ugly humming bird out (mostly because I just couldn't get it to look right and glued it into my art journal, onto some pretty patterned paper. I then added some more acrylic paint, stamps, doodles, washi tape and some shimmery mists and voila! This is what I came up with. So....my moral of the story. Just keep working at it. Don't give up. You might just end up with something fantastic that you're happy with. Thanks for stopping by!
